How to install a template

January 2015:

I have made a video on how to upload a template (and header image). You can view it here. Otherwise, written instructions are below…

Step 1:

Log into your Blogger account and click on the ‘Template’ tab

Step 2:

(Backup Step) Once there, click on the ‘Backup/Restore’ button in the top right area.

SML_install1

Step 3:

Before continuing, download your current template and save it somewhere on your computer (for backup). You do not need to use this file but it’s wise to keep it incase you wish to revert to a previous design at a later date. Then this is done, browse your computer for the new template.xml file and upload it.SML_install

Step 4:

That’s it! You should see your new template load in the small preview window on the template page. Visit your blog to check!

Some important points:

  • You must upload the template.xml file. Uploading any other kind of file will not work!
  • All downloads from this site are zipped (.zip) – this folder must be unzipped before you upload! The folder contains a few different files. Trying to upload the zip folder will not work!

    • Depending on your operating system and computer, you’d be best googling that question!

      • hey i tried to use your template but when i upload it, it says like this
We were unable to save your template.

        • Have you unzipped the folder you downloaded? (You MUST upload the template.XML file, NOT the zip folder).
